The objective of the Module was to provide participants with concepts of funding, the capacity of providing financial resources to finance a RI or a single project. The Module focused on developing a sustainable funding model for RIs through the explanation of the basic concepts of fund, funders, and methods of funding (including PPPs). Furthermore, the Module aimed to introduce participants to basic concepts of financial analysis of investment projects.

This Module provided the essential elements for developing a sustainable funding model for Research Infrastructures. The Module developed the concepts of the modes of funding, advocacy and ambassadorship, and identification and negotiation of funds with potential funders, creation of a good proposal for funding and identification of new tools as private-public partnerships, special projects, etc.

The emphasis was on the capacity to develop funding models, to evaluate investment projects and to develop a financial plan for RIs. In the end, participants gained an understanding of the financial consequences of strategic decisions.

Professor Paola Bongini led the Module with lectures provided by Emanuele Rossi, professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Evila Pila, professor at Politecnico di Milano, Markus Pasterk, visiting professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Monica Rossolini, assistant professor at the University of Milano-Bicocca.
