To operate optimally, it is most important that a research infrastructure as a whole, rather than the individuals within it, has the right combination of competencies. It may therefore be more appropriate, especially in the context of the less mature research infrastructures, for management teams to work together towards the Executive Masters in Management of Research Infrastructure.

The Infrastructure Empowerment© model will enable this and may catalyse cultural change in our approach to leadership training, by providing a means for entire organisations, in addition to the individuals who make them up, to gain recognition for supporting the development of excellence in management. This will contribute towards the attractiveness of research infrastructures as employers.

Thanks to the Infrastructure Empowerment© model, we will be able to create a custom programme that is carefully designed and personalised, just like a tailored suit. This customisation will be:

  • based on an in-depth analysis of an RI’s needs and operating context;
  • designed to suit the profile of the organisation in every aspect.

Therefore, several individuals from a Research Infrastructure can enter the programme as an organisation, and achieve the full master, or combine modules among staff members according to their organisational needs.

This format requires commitment of top management within the sponsoring Research Infrastructure to provide time and support for the participants attending the training (a letter of sponsorship should be included in the application of individual candidates).

The participating Research Infrastructure will be awarded with the RItrain Certificate of Excellence in RI Leadership, flagging it as an organisation that values staff development, thereby enhancing its attractiveness as an employer.

Research Infrastructures interested in participating in this scheme will be supported by the masters co-ordinators in the selection of the modules, the field project, and activities appropriate to their needs.
